About us

The structure of Dula Vineyards and Winery

After nationalisation and before the compensation of landowners after the fall of communism our family had owned only 0.3-0.5 hectare of vineyards in Eger and Erdőbénye with two small wine cellars. We had only been able to produce wine for the family’s private consumption at that time. After the fall of communism we were allowed to exercise our rights to get back the heritage of the Szepsi-Szűcs family in Erdőbénye and the heritage of the Mezey family in Eger. Unfortunately, the compensation that we got from the state for the loss of our heritage was rather unsatisfactory. We only got back 30 hectares of old vine-lands, which were in a very bad state. We got back mostly excellent vine-growing areas in Eger, but unfortunately we could only retrieve a tiny portion of our ancestors’ supreme wine-lands in Hegyalja and Tolcsva, though these lands are mostly in the first-rate Szentvér vineyard. We put our vineyards in order in 1994. We cleared 19 hectares of unproductive vineyards. We did this clearing in Eger concerning vineyards of Kékfrankos varietal older than 25 years in the following vineyards: Gőzmalmos, Fertő, Grőber, Felsőgalagonyás. On the other hand, we renewed 1.6 hectares of Furmint and Hárslevelű varietals in Tolcsva. We increased the size of our vine-lands with 12 hectares with the help of concentration of our lands, exchanges, and smaller purchases. We started the process of new vine-stock planting in 1997. We planted between 1.5 and 3.7 hectares of vine-stock every year.

8.5 hectares of Kékfrankos (in the vineyards of Gőzmalmos, Fertő, Gröber, Ráchegy)
2.7 hectares of Blauburger (in the vineyard of Békési)
2.9 hectares of Kisburgundi – Pinot Noir (in the vineyards of Gröber, Cinege)
4.7 hectares of Cabernet sauvignon (in the vineyard of Czigléd)
1.7 hectares of Kadarka (in the vineyards of Gröber, Bajusz, Ráchegy)
0.2 hectare of Portugiser (in the vineyard of Öreghegy)
4.0 hectares of Merlot (in the vineyard of Bajusz)
4.4 hectares of Cabernet franc (in the vineyards of Bajusz and Ráchegy)
0.6 hectare of Medoc noir – Medoc (in the vineyard of Bajusz)
0.7 hectare of Syrah (in the vineyard of Cinege)

These vineyards add up to 30.4 hectares.

Our white grape vineyards:

1.6 hectares of Leányka (in the vineyard of Bajusz)
0.3 hectare of Muscat Ottonel (in the vineyard of Marinka)
4.0 hectares of Tramini (in the vineyard of Ráchegy)
4.0 hectares of Sauvignon blanc (in the vineyard of Ráchegy)

These vineyards add up to 9.9 hectares.

Our vineyards in Tolcsva:

1.6 hectares of Furmint and Hárslevelű (in the vineyard of Szentvér)
1.4 hectares of Muscat lunel (in the vineyard of Szentvér)

These vineyards add up to 9.9 hectares.

Our property consists of 43.3 hectares of vine-stock at present.

We produce 6 or 10 tonnes of grapes per hectare. Each vine-stock can produce from 1.7 to 2.3 kilograms of grapes, which means 1.7 or 2.2 bottles of wine.
