Eger Hegybíró Bora - Egri Bikavér (Bull’s blood of Eger) 2005

Our Wines > Red Wines

This wine is the third Egri Bikavér (Bull’s Blood of Eger) produced in the modern times of our winery. The more than four year long oak barrel aging and the one year long bottled aging preserved the wine’s fruit and spicy flavours. This wine is a typical Egri Bikavér, and its flavours are not dominated by the characteristics of the four varietals: Kékoportó, Cabernet Sauvignon, Blauburger, or the Pinot Noir. This wine has a slightly enigmatic bottle bouquet with a lingering finish. This wine shows characteristics of ripe, delicate tannins combined with fiery alcohol and velvety acids. The finish of this wine is accompanied by clear flavours. This wine is well suited to fine, quality dishes. It is the inalienable right of the leaders of the wine-growers’ community in Eger that they are allowed to make 6500 bottles of Egri Bikavér (bull’s blood of Eger) from their own vintage according to the regulations of origin protection of Egri Bikavér each year. Under these regulations they are entitled to put their Egri Bikavér wine on the market with the label ‘Hegybíró Bora’ and use their own names on the label. This wine, in particular, was made by Dr. Bence Dula (leader of the wine-growers’ community 1995-2005) from his own vintage in the wine cellar of Béla Vincze, wine-grower of Eger. The wine was first shown to the public on Saint Donat’s Day, the festival day of the Egri Bikavér wine in 2008.
